Chiropractic Therapeutic Ultrasound Kelowna
That’s where therapeutic ultrasound comes in.
At Pro Motion Clinic in Kelowna, we use this treatment to help people get back to doing what they love. Whether you’re hitting the trails around Knox Mountain or just want to get through your workday without pain, therapeutic ultrasound might be what your body needs.
What Is Therapeutic Ultrasound?
Think of therapeutic ultrasound like this: it uses sound waves that you can’t hear. These waves go deep into your muscles and joints, creating a gentle warmth that helps your body heal itself.
There are two types we use at our clinic:
Thermal ultrasound sends out constant sound waves. This one works great for issues you’ve been dealing with for a while. Things that have been nagging at you for months.
Mechanical ultrasound sends out pulses of sound waves. We use this more for recent injuries. Like when you tweaked something last week playing volleyball at Gyro Beach.
The treatment itself? Pretty simple. We put gel on your skin (it helps the sound waves travel better) and move a small device over the area that hurts. Most people say it feels warm and relaxing. Some don’t feel much at all. That’s normal.
Each session takes about 8 to 12 minutes.
How Does It Actually Work?
The sound waves create tiny vibrations in your tissue. These vibrations do a few things:
They warm up the area, which brings more blood flow to that spot. More blood means more oxygen and nutrients. That’s what your body needs to fix itself.
The warmth also helps tight muscles relax. When muscles are less tight, you can move better. Pain goes down.
The vibrations seem to wake up your cells. They start working to repair damage in places where you have inflammation.
Think of it as giving your body’s natural healing process a boost.
What Can Therapeutic Ultrasound Help With?
Muscle and Tendon Problems
If you have tendinitis, this treatment can really help. Tendinitis is when a tendon gets inflamed and angry. It hurts. It limits what you can do. People often get it in their elbows, shoulders, or wrists from doing the same motion over and over.
The ultrasound increases blood supply to that tendon. More blood means less inflammation. Less inflammation means less pain.
Stiff and Tight Muscles
When muscles stay tight for too long, they start to hurt. Maybe you’ve been stressed. Maybe you sit at a computer all day. Maybe you overdid it at the gym.
Therapeutic ultrasound helps those muscles let go. The heat from the sound waves tells your muscles it’s okay to relax.
Old Injuries That Left Scar Tissue
Scar tissue forms when you heal from an injury. It’s your body’s way of patching things up. But sometimes that scar tissue gets in the way. It can make you stiff. It can limit how far you can move.
Ultrasound helps break down some of that scar tissue. This means better range of motion. More freedom to move.
Joint Pain
Whether it’s your knee, ankle, shoulder, or wrist, joint pain can stop you in your tracks. Ultrasound therapy can help reduce inflammation in and around joints. This often leads to less pain and better movement.
Sprains and Strains
These are some of the most common injuries we see. Maybe you rolled your ankle on a trail. Maybe you pulled something in your back lifting boxes.
Ultrasound can speed up healing for these types of injuries. It helps reduce swelling. It helps your body repair faster.
Plantar Fasciitis
This is when the bottom of your foot hurts, usually near your heel. It’s caused by inflammation in the thick tissue that runs along the bottom of your foot.
The skin on the bottom of your feet is thick. That makes it harder for other treatments to get deep enough. But ultrasound? It goes right through.
Delayed Muscle Soreness
You know that feeling two days after a hard workout? When your muscles are so sore you can barely move? That’s delayed onset muscle soreness.
Therapeutic ultrasound can help calm that down faster.
Why We Combine It With Chiropractic Care
Here’s something you should know: at Pro Motion Clinic, we don’t just use one tool and call it a day.
Our team believes in treating the whole problem. That means combining different treatments to get you the best results.
Therapeutic ultrasound works great on its own. But when we pair it with chiropractic adjustments? That’s when things really change.
Here’s why:
The ultrasound prepares your muscles. It gets them relaxed and ready. Then when we do an adjustment, your body accepts it better. The muscles aren’t fighting against it.
We also add in exercise rehab. These are specific movements that retrain your body to work the way it should. They help prevent the same problem from coming back.
Patient education is big for us too. We want you to understand what’s going on with your body. When you know what’s happening, you can make better choices about how you move and how you treat yourself.
Some people also benefit from Shockwave Therapy along with ultrasound. This is another tool we use for stubborn problems that haven’t responded to other treatments.
The point is: we look at your whole situation. We figure out what combination will work best for you.
What to Expect During Treatment
First, you’ll meet with one of our Chiropractors. They’ll ask about your pain. When did it start? What makes it worse? What makes it better? Have you tried anything else?
They’ll do a physical exam. They need to see how you move. Where it hurts. What your range of motion looks like.
Then we’ll make a treatment plan together. This might include ultrasound plus other treatments.
When it’s time for the ultrasound:
You’ll get comfortable on the treatment table. We want you to be able to relax.
We apply gel to the area we’re treating. It might feel cool at first.
We move the ultrasound device slowly over your skin. Small circles or back and forth. We keep it moving.
You might feel some warmth. Some people feel a light tingling. Many people find it relaxing. If anything feels uncomfortable, let us know right away.
After the 8 to 12 minutes, we wipe off the gel.
You might get homework. This could be stretches or exercises to do at home. These help extend the benefits of the treatment.
Most people need more than one session. The exact number depends on your situation. Some people come twice a week for a few weeks. Others come less often.
You might feel better right away. Or it might take a few sessions before you notice big changes. Everyone’s different.
Who Shouldn’t Get Therapeutic Ultrasound?
We don’t use it over open wounds or cuts. We need to wait until those heal.
We don’t use it if you’re pregnant and the treatment area is near your belly.
If you have a blood clot, this treatment could be risky. The ultrasound might cause the clot to move, which can be dangerous.
We’re careful with areas that have metal implants. Sometimes it’s fine. Sometimes we need to avoid those spots.
If you have a tumor in the area, we won’t use ultrasound there.
During your first visit, we’ll go through your health history. We’ll make sure therapeutic ultrasound is safe and right for you.
